Job Description: The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board

invites applications for the position of:

This position is effective upon the selection of the successful candidate.


This position is one of leadership in the spiritual direction, support and faith formation of Board personnel and trustees. The Board Chaplaincy Leader will report to the Director of Education, and will be expected to provide a ministry of presence and to assume the role of facilitator/provider of spiritual formation. Other duties will include facilitating celebration through prayer, sacrament and non-Eucharistic liturgies, the provision of spiritual counselling as required, and the maintenance of an effective liaison with the dioceses, the Deanery, local parishes and other personnel and agencies which provide similar services.


Design, develop and implement a comprehensive plan to promote and support faith formation across the Board;

Provide a ministry of presence and active leadership in the spiritual renewal and professional development of staff and faith formation of all Board personnel and trustees;

Participate in the implementation of bereavement and crisis intervention programs and teams, as required;

Coordinate system-level faith day activities and support and assist the Catholic curriculum coordinators and secondary school faith animator with faith development activities and resources;

Facilitate system celebrations through prayer, sacraments and liturgies;

Provide spiritual counselling as may be required in special circumstances;

Assist and support the secondary school faith animator, elementary Catholic curriculum coordinators, principals, and faith ambassadors in their planning and implementation of spiritual development and social justice programs in their schools;

Provide a spiritual presence and guidance to trustees and senior administration in their respective roles of policy setting, decision-making and administration, particularly in respect to the "distinctiveness" of Catholic education.


Masters of Divinity or equivalent is preferred;

Training and experience in chaplaincy and/or adult faith and spiritual formation, pastoral care, and counselling;

Excellent skills in communication, organization, motivation and task completion, group dynamics and interpersonal relationships;

Knowledge about the various spiritual formation programs;

Understanding of and comfort within the education sector and the Catholic school system specifically;

Familiarity with the Board and the Catholic community that it serves would be an asset.
