One (1) Temporary Full-Time Commander – Community Paramedicine
Nipissing District Paramedic Services
NBRHC – North Bay

The North Bay Regional Health Centre has the responsibility for the direct delivery of land ambulance services for the City of North Bay and
surrounding area. This Emergency Medical Service system currently provides Primary Care and Advanced Care Paramedic level of service to

approximately 19,000 calls per year. Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief of Operations and Quality Assurance, this position will be
responsible for the on-shift supervision of the Community Paramedicine Program in the District of Nipissing.

The Commander – Community Paramedicine provides supervision of Community Paramedics and operators, supervises day-to-day operations of the community Paramedicine Program for the District of Nipissing in accordance with legislated standards, regulations, NBRHC Vision and Values, Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:
Program development 
Coordination of Program delivery
 Establish a positive working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
 Development of Policies, Procedures and Medical Directives
 Delivery of educational programs
 Review and evaluate patient-care documentation, provide remedial assistance/coaching and monitors response times, investigate incidents and accidents and report findings to management 
Review/ investigate routine occurrences and complaints and prepare reports as required. 
Plan, Direct, assign and coordinate the work – ensuring adequate staffing levels, performing disaster/pandemic planning activities 
Complete and/or prepare a variety of documents, including patient documentation and special program updates/reports. 
Assist with implementation of return to work plans 
Complete district stock, ensuring adequate stock levels and required equipment.
 Liaison with CACC in a duty officer capacity on shift 
Oversee and assist in performing general maintenance tasks to keep vehicles, equipment and tools in operable condition.
 Ensure staff comply with Labour Laws, Health & Safety Act, Ambulance Act, Coroners Act, Mental Health Act and Highway Traffic Act
 Perform public relations activities, presenting information, meeting with allied agencies/public organizations and promoting Emergency Medical Services
 Provide input with policy/procedure development 
Provide internal client service to peers/co-workers throughout the organization
 Provide input and recommendations for remedial assistance, training and development for paramedics to the Deputy - Quality Assurance
 Liaison with staff within the Base Hospital, Fire Department. Police and Community Partners to provide service and ensuring good working relations

Post-secondary completion (i.e. Emergency Medical Care Attendant) and a minimum of five (5) years as a certified Paramedic and minimum of three (3) years related supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
 Certification as a Primary Care Paramedic or Advanced Care Paramedic in Ontario is an asset
 Current CPR (HCP) certification required
 Valid class F Driver’s licence with clean Driver’s Abstract required
 Knowledge of the Ambulance Act, Health & Safety Act and Communicable Disease Standards required
 General knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, the Coroner’s Act and the Mental Health Act required
 Must demonstrate basic computer knowledge, MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Outlook and the internet
 Excellent level of written and verbal communication skills required
 Must demonstrate knowledge of oxygen equipment, ambulance equipment, portable radio and work tools
 Must demonstrate analytical thinking skills
 Ability to adapt to constant changing emergency service work environment required
 Ability to collaborate with co-workers, other departments and external agencies required
 Must demonstrated commitment to personal growth and development
 Must have good attendance and work performance history
 Must be able to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in our organization
 Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

Criminal Reference Check including the Vulnerable Sector Check: recent within six (6) months is a requirement
