Job Description:

GOALIE INSTRUCTOR

Goalie Instructors at HOC teach either two or three group sessions a day. A group session consists of two hours of high-intensity hockey training daily. Instructors are on the ice either 4-6 hours a day. Instructors are required to follow a comprehensive teaching outline, to ensure that all required goalie skills are taught during the course of the week. Instructors must show initiative by providing goalies with individual on-ice instruction when in a group setting.

Instructors will evaluate and provide a detailed, thoughtful skills evaluation for each camper at the end of each week. Instructors are responsible for teaching campers the safety requirements of each program ensuring that all participants use equipment properly and follow safety standards. This includes providing care to our campers that reflects the standards and guidelines of HOC's Child Care Practices. Each instructor is responsible for their program area and maintaining equipment in good order for the next program period.

Hockey Staff is hired for the months of July & August and work in shifts of either 4-6 hours a day of on-ice instruction. Room and board are provided.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be a goalie
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must have a strong hockey background
  • Genuine interest in teaching hockey skills to children and teaching/instructing experience a definite requirement.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current certificate of Emergency First Aid & CPR, as well as Respect in Sport Certificate.
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and positive.
  • Must be willing to take part in duties outside the defined job description.

HOC is a residential children’s camp in Ontario that has been privately owned and operated since 1966. Children from all over the world, aged 7-16, come to experience “The Ultimate Hockey And Summer Camp Experience” on beautiful Eagle Lake.

With a capacity of 240 campers per week and 100 staff (1 staff to 2.5 campers), the beauty of HOC is that we are large enough to offer diversified camp programs to suit every camper's needs.

Yet, with a small camper-to-staff ratio, we also have the resources to ensure campers and parents feel connected to the camp community and that their specific needs are heard, acknowledged and met.

The HOC experience provides campers with the opportunity for improved self-confidence, friendship, individual challenge and improved skill development – all in a safe and enjoyable camp environment.
