Job Description:

Reporting to the Personal Lines Underwriting Manager, the Underwriter is responsible for gathering the necessary data for the study of risks, making the analysis in order to accept, refuse or modify them in order to contribute to a profitable portfolio of business. He/she will consistently maintain and follow the company’s underwriting guidelines for automobile and/or residential business so that corporate service standards may be met.

The Underwriter will recommend, where appropriate and applicable, improvements/changes to Underwriting guidelines and/or procedures. He/she will also develop excellent broker relationships through superior service and responding to all broker concerns with a sense of urgency. Finally, the Underwriter will attend broker/company functions and participate in broker training and perform all other related tasks when requested.

In order to meet the requirements of this position, the candidate must have his/her post secondary degree/diploma, as well as a minimum three to five years of personal lines automobile and property underwriting experience and/or related experience in an insurance brokerage. He/she should have or is pursuing their CIP designation (CAIB accepted). The candidate should have sound knowledge of coverage, rating and underwriting procedures. He/she should be recognized for his/her strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, negotiating and decision making skills. The candidate should have good computer skills, along with excellent customer service and time management skills. He/she should also have a valid Ontario Driver’s License, for occasional travel.

Located in the downtown area of North Bay, our Optimum branch has ample parking nearby while located on a bus route. It is also only a short walk to shopping, restaurants, and the magnificent Lake Nipissing waterfront.
